Our Philosophy

We are a Community-based Preschool that see ourselves as a large extended family. We provide a safe, warm nurturing environment for our children, whanau and parents from all different cultures and backgrounds, where different abilities are accepted and respected.

Our curriculum is based on Te Whāriki, a framework of goals and objectives for learning which empowers and supports a child’s holistic development and building good relationships and respecting one another in our centre and have a sense of belonging.

We believe children learn through play allowing children to ‘be children’. Learning should be fun, hands-on and challenging. We continually provide opportunities for children to experiment, explore, solve problems and express ideas. This is achieved through our active planning and teaching process, and is child-initiated. Teachers observe and recognise the children’s interests and plan then extend those interests with a diverse range of teaching strategies.

We provide an environment that is set up with a variety of resources that provoke children’s thinking and learning, and encourages children to make their own choices. Our children also get to explore the community through regular excursions, special visitors to the centre, and positive links with nearby school and community facilities.

Teachers develop responsive, warm, trusting and respectful relationships with all children with clear, consistent boundaries of acceptable behavior. We teach children to negotiate and resolve conflicts or disagreement with others.

We utilise the ‘Incredible Years’ programme, which is a positive behavior management programme.
